I know this entire post will come off a little (or very) pretentious. I’m a parent of three girls with only one child in school and it has only been one week. I think I had such horrible expectations for this week and the fact that all four of us have made it out the door dressed and fed by 7:30 is quite amazing to me. Unfortunately my success hinges on me waking up at 5:30 or 6. Because of this I have also been going to bed by 10 – which is pretty unusual. Our schedule looks a little like this:
6:00 – Feed Charlotte and get her dressed
6:20 – Get myself dressed and ready
6:40 – Wake up girls and make breakfast and lunches
7:00 – Get the girls dressed
7:20 – Fix girls hair
7:30 – 7:40 – Get out the door
My goal this school year is to give us enough time to comfortably get dressed, fed, and out the door to avoid chaos. I made the girls pick out their clothes for the week on Sunday and that worked really nicely. I also have checked her bag as soon as she gets home so it is ready for the next day. Maky and Charlotte are my wild cards and Maky more than Charlotte. Maky had some meltdowns yesterday because of sitting arrangements on the stroller.
Our only hang up this week has been the dogs at the end of the road. The girls and I walk Josey to and from school everyday and the big dogs at the end of the street terrify me. When I was 16 a dog chased me (she was protecting her pups) and since then I haven’t been super trusting of dogs I don’t know. I’m sure they are harmless but I can’t help that my heart races a little when one of the dogs runs up to the stroller barking.
What are some of your tricks for getting your kids out the door? What slows down your morning?
